OGALLALA - The Ogallala Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire near mile marker 125 on Interstate 80 on Sunday afternoon.

The OVFD says a van-style semi-tractor-trailer was burning from the rear axles and spread to the freight at 2:10 p.m. The right shoulder of the interstate was blocked. Travelers were advised to stay left of the incident, before OVFD requested to shutdown the road due to the high volume and traffic and the difficulty of access into the trailer because of size and volume of the freight.

Traffic was diverted for approximately four hours. No injuries, or other accidents, were reported at the scene.

A faulty brake or wheel bearing on the trailer is being blamed as the cause of the fire. The trailer was completely destroyed by the blaze and contents in the trailer suffered damage by fire and smoke.

The Nebraska Department of Roads, Keith County Sheriff's office, Ogallala Police Department, Keystone-Lemoyne Volunteer Fire Department, Brule Volunteer Fire Department and Ogallala Volunteer EMS also responded to the scene.
