Derek David Weingardt, 33, from Padroni, Colorado passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family and friends after a 5 year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Derek was born on February 26, 1991 in Sterling, Colorado to Kevin and Alice (Yahn) Weingardt. Derek attended Caliche High School where he played in multiple sports and created an abundance of friendships. Derek brought so much joy and laughter into the hallways of Caliche, leaving a lasting impression. After graduating high school, he attended NJC where he played basketball. He always found ways to bring out the best in his teammates, coaches, and friends and cherished the memories he made at NJC. Following college, Derek worked as a wind technician at Invenergy, coached a season of boys basketball at Caliche and soon after, he found his love for farming. He loved the time he got to spend outside, but more than that, he enjoyed the people he worked with, including his Uncle Doug and cousin, Ryan.

On July 28, 2018 he married the love of his life, Lyndsay. Their marriage was centered around love and God, bringing light and joy to those around them. On June 10, 2019, they welcomed their daughter, Elise Mae into the world. Derek’s spirit will live on through Elsie in so many different ways. His infectious smile, laugh, and easy going personality are only a few of the qualities she already displays.

Derek never took life too seriously. You could always rely on Derek to fill the room with jokes and laughter, even during the hard moments. Derek was God loving, a friend to all and a hard worker. He had a natural connection with kids and they were always drawn to him. At every family event, you were guaranteed to find him running around with the kids. Because of all his infectious qualities, we desire to live a life like Derek.

Derek is survived by his loving wife, Lyndsay; daughter, Elsie; parents, Kevin & Alice; sisters, Jessica (Kyle) Tilford, Taylor (Trevor) Dalton; brother, Tyson (Regan) Weingardt; grandparents, Vi Weingardt, Virginia Stieb Yahn, Sandi Heaston and several nieces and nephews. In laws, Susan and Monte Hamann; Kalen Solano, Nicole Hamann, and Jaxson Hamann.

Derek is preceded in death by his grandparents, Alice and David Yahn, Joe Weingardt, Harry Heaston; cousins, Cole Rhodes, Emersyn Aurich; uncle, Allen Marin. Derek will be missed by many but because of Derek we will laugh more, love better, and continue to run towards Jesus. He remained steadfast in his faith no matter the circumstance.
