Clayton Way, age 87, of Lodgepole, NE passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Sidney Regional Medical Center - Extended Care in Sidney, NE.

Full Military Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Pleasantview Cemetery in Lodgepole, NE with Pastor Leon “Bud” Gillespie officiating.

     He was born March 31, 1937 in Lodgepole, NE to Archie and Tillie (Dickinson) Way. Clayton had two sisters, Gloria and Elvira, and four brothers, Alva (Mac), Kenneth, Marvin, and Norman.
     Clayton grew up in Nebraska and Missouri. His father Archie took an interest in farming and moved the family to Missouri. After a short time, the family moved back to Lodgepole. As a boy, he enjoyed camping and hunting with his family. After graduating from Lodgepole High School, Clayton worked for Tony Kripal and Lou Quinn at Kripal's Garage in Lodgepole.
     He was drafted into the Army in 1960 and served two years as mechanic and driver. He often said, although he would not willingly join the Army, he was grateful for the memories. Clayton was a trusted mechanic. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked at various auto repair shops in both Colorado and Nebraska. He was known for fixing a car when no one else could. He received multiple awards for excellence in auto repair from General Motors.
     In 1961, Clayton married Sharon Stevens of Lodgepole, NE. They had two children together - Cody and Cameron. They divorced and he moved back to his home town of Lodgepole. After moving back to Nebraska in 1982, Clayton worked with his brothers Ken and Mac in the Kreider building performing auto repair. After a short time, he started his own auto repair business, which is where he met his wife Bernita Boehmer of Lodgepole, NE. They married in 1985. Together they ran a successful small farm. He and Bernita enjoyed traveling the country in his Red Dale camper trailer. On the farm, he enjoyed shooting targets, gardening, and his various farm animals, which included dogs, cats, a donkey, a horse, wild turkeys, cattle, geese, chickens, guineas, and ducks.
      Clayton was preceded in death by his parents Archie and Tillie; sisters Gloria and Elvira; brother Ken; infant brothers Marvin and Normanc, step son-in-law Gene Miller.
      Survivors include his wife Bernita and brother Mac and wife Ruth; sons Cody and Cameron and wife Lori; and step-children Carey McGee, Karrla McGee, Christopher Steele, Doug Honebein and wife Cindy, Denise Miller, Sandy Franks and husband Brad, and Colleen Koster and husband Gene, sister-in-law Donna Way, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  His step-children also called him 'Dad’.
