KIMBALL -- Friday night’s football game included a special half-time presentation – a team of T-Mobile representatives presented a $5,000 check to Kimball Jr./Sr. High School.

Kimball High School recently won a $5,000 grant through the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights Program – an initiative investing in small town high school football communities across America.

A T-Mobile team visited Kimball to meet the school officials, students and community members and witness the Longhorn Pride that the community exhibits.

The first opportunity was at the pep rally Thursday afternoon where both the Jr/Sr. High School and Mary Lynch Elementary gathered to showcase their school spirit.

Rural Market Manager Keely Garcia said, “We’ve been to some big towns, big schools and Kimball’s pep rally was louder, they were more into it.”

The team stayed to then experience a Longhorn football game which was against Perkins County.

“We’ve all had a great time here in Kimball,” Garcia said. “The school, the spirit, the pride, the smiling and waving, the community, everything - it’s just heartwarming.”

T-Mobile is in the process of approving another year of the competition, and Garcia said this has put Kimball on the map and she expects Kimball to apply.

When next year’s competition is finalized, they will be in contact with the school to prepare the faculty, students, and community on how to increase the chances of winning.

The competition is based on the school and community’s ambition in promoting their school spirit – that's what will determine if they make it to the top 25 and even the grand prize of $1 million.

Activities Director Jaclyn Burks said it was amazing for the school to even win the $5,000, and she plans to put it toward a new sound system for the football field.
