BRIDGEPORT - A driver was arrested Tuesday after a near head-on collision on Highway 26 led to the discovery of drugs, alcohol and paraphernalia, according to the Morrill County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the area of Highway 26 near Road 102 after receiving a report that a vehicle had crossed into oncoming traffic and nearly caused a collision. The reporting driver told deputies the other vehicle entered their lane before swerving back.

Deputies located the second vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Ryan D. Martinez. Authorities said Martinez showed signs of impairment, and deputies observed controlled substances and drug paraphernalia in plain view on the vehicle’s center console.

A search of the vehicle uncovered fentanyl, THC wax, multiple open containers of alcohol and various items of drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies later determined Martinez’s blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.

Martinez was arrested and taken to the Morrill County Jail on charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of alcohol and open alcohol container.

The case remains under investigation. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
