Julie Kay Schmid was born on October 31, 1967, in Oshkosh, NE, the eldest of three daughters to Carol Brauer and Roland “Rollie” Schmid. She attended school in Avoca, IA, until 1984, when she moved to Lodgepole with her mother. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Iowa and stayed active throughout school, participating in band, choir, swim team, track, basketball, and many other activities.

Julie graduated from Lodgepole High School in 1986, earned an Associate’s Degree from WNCC, and later a Bachelor of Science from Bellevue University in 2008. She devoted her career to serving others through roles at The Chappell Register, Deuel County State Bank, Community First Bank, WheatBelt PPD, Cabela’s, and most recently Banc of California. She was known for her dedication and strong talent for technology, using her skills daily to support those she worked with.

Julie married Tim Bond on November 10, 1984, at the Methodist Church in Lodgepole. They made their home on the farm and welcomed three children: Derek, Aaron, and Kristine. Julie was a devoted mother whose life centered on service, compassion, and commitment to her family and community. She supported her children by coaching T-ball, managing concession stands, teaching Sunday school, and giving piano lessons. During harvest, she ensured everyone was well fed, delivering meals to the field with care.

Rooted deeply in her faith, Julie was a longtime member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lodgepole, where she played piano and organ for more than 38 years. She was active in the Sunshine Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and participated in the Lodgepole High School Alumni Band, marching each year in the Old Settlers Parade with her clarinet.

Her greatest joy was being “Grandma” to Crew, Rhys, Flora, and Cadence. She cherished every moment with them and used her love of crochet to make stuffed animals, clothes, and blankets. Julie was known for her kindness, compassion, and generosity. Often behind the camera, she loved capturing memories for others. Her strong faith guided her, giving her courage and grace through every challenge.
