KIMBALL -- Santa’s Helpers is adding a twist to this holiday’s Home Decorating Contest.

The community will have the chance to cast votes for the best decorated house by joining the Tour of Lights Dec. 22 and 23.

Angie Stander with Santa’s Helpers said the group has teamed up with resident Gabriel Miller to take people around town touring the houses that are entered in the contest.

The bus will be leaving from the Main Street Market at 7 p.m. on Dec. 22 and 23.

“This year we’re going to have the people who ride the bus be the judges for us, so we thought that would be a different twist to it and be a lot more fun for people to be involved,” Stander said.

Resident Gabriel Miller volunteered this year to assist in taking people around town to tour the lights and vote on the houses entered in the competition.

“I just wanted to be more involved in the community and try to get more people involved in [the contest],” Miller said. “When people drive through town, it catches people’s eyes, so the more people we can get pulled into Kimball, the better – so trying to get Kimball a little more appealing and get more people involved.”

Miller said he plans to continue helping with the Tour of Lights in the years to come.

No registration is required for those who want to participate in the Tour of Lights. The deadline to enter into the contest is Dec. 20. Call or text your name, address and phone number to Angie Stander at 308-230-0093.

“As the committee, we like to see people participate in the holidays; that was the gist of Santa's Helpers where a bunch of us just wanted to see what we could do to bring the community together,” Stander said. “The decorating contest we started a few years ago and it’s just to have people participate with the holiday spirit.”
