STANTON, Neb. — A Norfolk man will spend years in jail after being sentenced for leading law enforcement on a multi-county chase.

According to court documents, Stanton County District Court Judge Mike Long sentenced 29-year-old Tyler Kocian to 54-72 months in prison with credit for 330 days served.

A jury had previously found Kocian guilty of operating a vehicle to avoid arrest, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, criminal mischief and willful reckless driving. Counts of assaulting an officer using a vehicle and terroristic threats were dropped.

The convictions are related to an incident in February when police say Kocian fled authorities in O’Neill. He led law enforcement on a chase that lasted more than 160 miles before officers arrested him in Blair. During the chase, police say he used his vehicle to ram a Stanton County patrol car.
