Kimball ladies fall short against Chase County, Kimball boys win in close battle
Chase County made the trip to Kimball Saturday for a battle of the longhorns, the mascot the schools share. They split games with Kimball, taking the girls game before dropping the boys match-up in what became Kimball's most exciting game of the season.
Coming off a big win at South Platte on Tuesday and another victory just last night in Haxtun, the Kimball girls had reason to be confident coming into this match-up. However, a low shooting percentage through the first quarter paired with the 3-point power of Chase County, put Kimabll a ta big deficit early. They fought back in the second half but Chase County continued to shoot from the 3-point line with success. Chase County won 62-36.
The boys game had the exact opposite start with Kimball sinking three 3-pointers to start the game and adding a layup while Chase County only managed a foul shot.
Late in the first Chase County started to come back as they hit their own three 3-pointers and a dunk. By halftime, Kimball led by only two points, having fallen behind once late in the second quarter.
The second half saw eight lead changes as both teams battled hard. Chase County got in foul trouble in both the third and fourth quarters, allowing Kimball to put up the necessary free throws to win the close game. The longhorns of the panhandle won 66-61.
