School Board commends Red Raiders football team for championship season
SIDNEY -- The Sidney High School Red Raider football team was recognized Monday for their journey to the championship game in 2025.
The Red Raiders earned their way to the Big Show with a 28-24 win over No. 2 Columbus Lakeview, facing Wahoo in the championship.
Monday night the school board commended the team and coach Ryan Smith for their successful season.
The team recognition included a special presentation to Coach Smith of a retired flag signed by the team.
“I’ve been asked what does it take. It takes fans. I takes community, and I also mention you guys ... often ... the support of the school board is one of the key components to having a successful program, so thank you all you guys, and thanks to you guys. We appreciate it,” he said to the board and the audience.
The Red Raiders finished the 2025 season with a 12-1 record. Their only loss was 20-6 against Wahoo in the championship game.
