Bridgeport Elementary among 63 schools nationally recognized for academic achievement

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Two Nebraska schools have been named 2025 National ESEA Distinguished Schools, joining 63 schools across the U.S. recognized for extraordinary success in improving student achievement.

Bridgeport Elementary in Bridgeport was honored for exceptional student performance and academic growth, while Adams Elementary in Omaha was recognized for closing the achievement gap between student groups. The awards are presented annually by the National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA), formerly known as the National Title I Association.

“These schools exemplify the impact of effectively utilizing federal funds to enhance student education outcomes,” NAESPA said in announcing the selections.

Adams Elementary in Omaha also earned the honor, recognized for closing the achievement gap between student groups.

The National ESEA Distinguished Schools program, which began in 1996, annually celebrates schools nationwide that have demonstrated significant progress in one of three categories: exceptional student performance and academic growth; closing achievement gaps between student groups; or excellence in serving special populations, including homeless, migrant and English learner students.

The program recognizes schools that have leveraged ESEA federal funding—primarily Title I dollars designed to support low-income students—to drive measurable improvements in student success.

Bridgeport Elementary’s recognition underscores the school’s commitment to raising academic standards and supporting student growth. The school’s selection places it among the most successful elementary schools in the nation in its category.
