Semi-truck driver arrested after leading police on a chase
SCOTTSBLUFF - Scottsbluff Police Department arrested a Canadian man after leading them on a chase around 10:37pm Wednesday.
Officers arrested 35 year old Henry George FUNK from Alberta, Canada after they were advised that a truck struck a pole and fire hydrant.
The investigating officer observed the flatbed trailer at the entrance of the San Pedro Restaurant and the Water Hole.
FUNK was turning around in the open parking lot of those locations.
FUNK then decided to flee eastbound on 27th Street.
As FUNK continue to drive at speeds over 65mph, he failed to stop at traffic lights and intersections, causing it to go airborne.
FUNK eventually drove through a lock gate at the west side of the Western Nebraska Regional Airport.
FUNK drove through the open fields and runways at the airport before he struck a wooden power pole shearing it off.
After a short standoff, FUNK was sent to Regional West Medical Center to receive treatment for a laceration on the back of his head.
FUNK was taken into custody and charged with DUI, flight to avoid arrest and leaving the scene of an accident.
Scottsbluff Police Department received assistance from Scottsbluff Fire Dept., Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Scotts Bluff Rural Fire Dept. as well as Airport Fire Dept. and Ron’s Towing.
