LINCOLN – A pair of Sidney High School coaches were honored for their hard work at the Nebraska Coaches Association Awards and Recognition Banquet. The annual event was held on Sunday in Lincoln at the Lincoln Station Great Hall.

Sidney High School Head Cross Country Coach Donna Wiedeburg received the Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year. Wiedeburg coached the team of Talissa Tanquary, Lydia Peters, Jenju Peters, and Rheo Dykstra to a Class C State Cross Country Championship in October in Kearney. The Sidney Boys Cross Country team finished second in the State Championships.

Sidney Red Raider Head Track & Field Coach Matt McKay was presented with the Boys Track & Field Coach of the Year. McKay coached a Sidney Boys Track Team that qualified 10 individuals in 12 events and 3 relays for the Class B State Track & Field Championships and ran away from the field to win the title in Omaha in May.

All Coaches of the Year are selected by their peers for service to their respective sports and for the success they have had in recent years. Each recipient receives a plaque signifying this honor, which are presented at the NCA awards banquet.
