Hemingford hung on for a five-point win over the Morrill boys to win this year’s Panhandle Conference Tournament.

The Bobcats led 11-10 after one quarter and 22-16 after the first half, but Morrill came out big in the third, scoring 23 to knot the score at 39 with eight minutes left. Hemingford needed to win the final frame and managed to assemble an 18-13 run to edge out Morrill for the title.

Hay Springs finished third in the tourney with a 57-47 win over Edgemont in the consolation game. It was another tight contest to begin with, as the teams were tied at 11 after one quarter. The Hawks held on to a narrow 28-26 margin at the break and used a big third quarter to widen the gap. Despite a 14-11 run in favor of the Moguls in the fourth, Hay Springs was able to hold off the challenge.

The Crawford boys picked up a fifth-place finish in the Panhandle Conference tourney with a 59-23 defeat of the Sioux County Warriors in the third match-up between the teams this season.

Three of the Rams’ five wins this year have been victories over Sioux County, and the Rams controlled the conference contest from the beginning. Crawford went up 10-2 after one quarter of play and held a 29-4 advantage at the break. The Warriors netted 13 in the third in an effort to cut their deficit but were unable to stop the Rams on defense as they dropped 19 points on the board. Crawford used an 11-6 showing in the fourth to put the game away.

The Hemingford Bobcats claimed the girls Panhandle Conference Tournament championship, upending the Sioux County Warriors 52-33.

The teams stayed with each other through the first, ending the opening frame with the score tied at nine, but Hemingford pulled away before half-time, going up 23-15. The Bobcats used a 14-7 run in the third to widen their lead and poured in 16 in the final eight minutes to secure the title. K. Walker and C. Bryner netted 18 and 11 points for the Bobcats, while Kailey Klein scored 12 for the Warriors.

The Crawford Rams finished in third with a 55-41 victory over Edgemont. The consolation match started with the Rams and Moguls tied at 14, but a 21-point second quarter pushed the Rams to a 35-21 advantage at half-time. The Moguls mounted a 14-11 come-back challenge in the fourth, but fell short.

Morrill took the fifth-place contest, inching by Hay Springs 46-42. The Lions led 10-9 early and were up by four at half-time. Morrill extended their lead to six, 31-25, after the break and survived a 17-15 run late in the game by the Hawks.
