WYOMING — Transportation officials in Wyoming are shutting down portions of I-80 as the area deals with high winds and blowing snow.
Early Monday afternoon, the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced Interstate 80 westbound from Laramie to Rawlins is closed due to winter weather conditions. The eastbound lanes of the same stretch are closed to light and high profile vehicles because of high winds.
As of 12:15 p.m. Monday, the reopening time of the Interstate is unknown.
Officials say blowing snow and high winds is causing dangerous travel conditions and low visibility. That portion of I-80 is under a High Wind Warning with the National Weather Service saying wind gusts to reach and potentially exceed 70 miles per hour.
