Sophomore outfielder Abbie Squier was named the first Big Ten Player of the Week for the 2022 season the conference announced on Monday, as she shared the honor with Northwestern's Rachel Lewis. 
 
Squier was recognized for an outstanding opening weekend at the UNI Dome Classic in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Squier hit .500 in five games with one double, two homers and four RBIs. Her two home runs were the first of her career. Squier also had a .938 slugging percentage and a .579 on base percentage. The sophomore started all five games in left field. 
 
A Lincoln native, Squier went 1-for-4 in two games on opening, recording her first career home run against Northern Iowa. On Saturday, the sophomore was 4-for-8 including one double against Iowa State. On the final day of the weekend, Squier was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer against South Dakota State. 
 
This is Squier's first Big Ten weekly award of her career. The last Nebraska player to be named Big Ten Player of the Week was Kaylin Kinney on May 5, 2021.

Husker Men and Women Ranked in USTFCCCA Poll

The Nebraska track and field team is the only Big Ten program to appear in both men's and women's rankings of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association's (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
 
The Husker men are ranked for the fourth consecutive week, checking in at No. 15 with a total of 56.63. The Women appeared in the national poll for the second straight week and improved four spots to No. 18 with a score of 35.90.
 
Joining Nebraska in the men's rankings were No. 6 Iowa, No. 18 Michigan State and No. 24 Indiana. On the women's side, the Huskers were joined by No. 14 Ohio State and 21st-ranked Penn State.
 
The Nebraska track and field team hosts the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.

Huskers To Play Five Spring Games

The Nebraska soccer team unveiled its five-game spring slate on Monday, which features all home matches.

The Huskers open with a contest against South Dakota State on Saturday, Feb. 26 inside the Hawks Championship Center. Kickoff for the tilt is scheduled for 2 p.m. The following month, NU will host the NWSL KC Current on Friday, March 11 at 4 p.m.

Nebraska has three home games scheduled for April, with all games to be played at Hibner Stadium. The Huskers host three former conference foes in Iowa State on Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m., Colorado on Saturday, April 9 at 7 p.m. and Kansas State on Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m.

Huskers Look to Make Waves at Big Tens

Madison, Wisc. -- The Nebraska swimming and diving team is set for four days of vying for the top placements among the conference as the Huskers get ready for the 2022 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Madison, Wis., this week. The meet will begin Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. (CT) at Soderholm Family Aquatic Center and will run through Saturday.

Big Ten swimmers will go head-to-head in the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay on Wednesday night. Starting Thursday, preliminary races will be held at 10 a.m. and finals will begin at 5:30 p.m. each day.

At the 2021 conference championships, fifth-year senior Autumn Haebig captured the first Husker Big Ten Conference individual title when she placed first in the 200 free. The Wisconsin-native also swam to fifth in the 500 free and ninth in the 100 free.

Sara Troyer is a key component to the Husker squad in the diving well. Last year she placed third in the one-meter and 10th in the three-meter. The senior from Goshen, Ind., has 10 titles on the season. 

Audrey Coffey swam to 10th in the 1650 free and 14th in the 500 free to lead the distance corps during last season's championships. She was joined by Maggie Berning in the 500 free who finished 21st, in addition to her 15th-place finish in the 200 fly. 

Ella Stein scored in both breaststroke events last season, while Shannon Stott earned a spot in the C-finals in the 200 fly. Kimberly LanaghenBerkeley LivingstonMadesyn RonquillioKatelyn Kilpatrick and Lexi Kucera round out the returning individual scorers.

Joining them is a solid freshman class featuring Maia HallIlaria MurzilliJoJo Randby, Bea Padron, Sydney McCracken and Madison Lloyd. The six-member class has continuously cut time and proven that they can compete with the best.

Adding depth to the Big Red is Sarah Barton, who has shown versatility this season and notched 19 top-five finishes, Gabby Donahue, a big contributor in the backstroke, Emily Haimes, a top-sprinter transfer from West Virginia, and Molly Rosenthal, who has shown her talent in the distance events.

Huskers Take Down Shockers In Thrilling Victory

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska men's tennis team (3-3, 0-0 Big Ten) won a thriller against the Wichita State Shockers (5-3, 0-0 AAC), winning 4-3 at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.

The match began with doubles play. Wichita State's Alex Richards and Kristof Minarik got the win in the No. 2 spot over the Huskers' Roni Hietaranta and Rudra Dixit, 6-1, to open play. Nebraska battled in the No. 1 spot to tie the doubles match at one a piece, as Victor Moreno Lozano and Nic Wiedenhorn took down Nicolas Acevedo and Luka Mrsic, 7-5. After being down 5-3 and in a 40-0 hole, Patrick Cacciatore and Shunya Maruyama willed themselves to victory over Jackie Lin and Ray Lo. The Huskers grabbed the final four set points to win the match, 7-5, and take the doubles point.

In singles action, Minarik defeated William Gleason in consecutive sets, 6-2, 6-2, to tie the match at one. In the No. 3 spot, Mrsic took down Wiedenhorn in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, to give the Shockers a 2-1 lead. Dario Huber fell just short in straight sets to Acevedo after forcing a first-set tiebreaker, which he narrowly lost 7-5. He ended up losing the second set 6-1 which in turn gave Wichita State a 3-1 lead.

Lozano built upon his doubles win as he bested the Shockers' Alex Richards 6-3, 6-4 to bring the lead back within reach at 3-2. In a thriller, Maruyama prevailed to defeat Jackie Lin in the No. 6 spot to tie the match at three. He rallied back after dropping the second set to win the third and decisive set, 6-4. For the win, Hietaranta remained undefeated on the season at 6-0 as he won his match in the No. 4 spot against Orel Ovil. After being down 4-2 in the set, he battled back to take the final set 6-4 and give the Huskers a 4-3 victory over the Shockers.

Up next, the Huskers will continue their three-game home stand as they take on SMU next Sunday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m and then Omaha at 5 p.m. at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
