BAYARD - A man who threatened to fight a Nebraska Panhandle sheriff was sentenced to a year in prison.

Colby Bowers, 28, of Bayard, pleaded guilty to an amended felony charge of third offense refusal to submit to a chemical test. He'll be eligible for parole in six months.

According to court records, Bowers was arrested in June for drunk driving. Once in custody, Bowers is accused of threatening to fight Sheridan County Sheriff Jeff Brewer once he got out of jail. Brewer was dispatched to Family Dollar in Rushville for a call that Bowers was "being disruptive by directing racial slurs at customers."

Bowers was arrested in 2019 in Bayard for punching and biting a city police officer during an altercation.
