STERLING, CO — A northeast Colorado school district is looking for a new leader after ending its superintendent's contract this week.

The RE-1 Valley School Board, which includes schools in Sterling and Iliff, Colorado, voted unanimously to terminate Superintendent Shila Adolf's contract Wednesday night.

Adolf has been terminated effective immediately, school board president Steven Shinn said.

"I think there has been significant different views as far as operations in the RE-1 valley" Shinn said.

Adolf started her job as superintendent July 1st, 2020. Almost a year later, June 9th, 2021, an online petition was started in attempt to get Adolf terminated. The petition received 775 signatures.

Just before the petition launched, the school board held a meeting June 1st, 2021, to vote to extend Adolf's contract through June 30th, 2023. The motion carried with a six to one vote. School board Vice President, Rhonda Monheiser was the only one to vote against it.

“These are always difficult for everyone involved and we wish everyone the best moving forward,” Shinn said.

Ron Marostica will be the interim superintendent of RE-1 school valley district.
