Man threatens Sidney resident after hit-and-run
SIDNEY, NE -- A Panhandle man is behind bars after a reported hit-and-run.
According to an arrest affidavit, Daniel James Hank was dining at a restaurant in downtown Sidney with his two sons on March 15th. Upon leaving the restaurant, Hank reportedly backed into another vehicle, exited his vehicle, examined the damage, and then re-entered his vehicle and drove away without reporting the incident. Hank was also accused of driving a vehicle without license plates.
Sidney Police Chief Joe Aikens was notified via cell phone picture of the reported hit-and-run.
Sergeant Scott Tobler contacted Hank and reported he admitted to driving the vehicle, but said he didn't know he backed into another vehicle.
Tobler said Hank’s drivers license was revoked after charges of driving under the influence.
Six days after the reported hit-and-run incident, a Sidney resident contacted authorities to report threats he had received from Hank. An affidavit states the threats were voice mails and text messages indicating Hank was going to physically assault the individual.
Tobler said when Hank was questioned in the police department, he admitted to being parked across the street from Sam and Louie’s, but denied exiting the vehicle and looking at the damage to the vehicle he backed in to.
Hank also admitted to sending threatening messages.
According to the affidavit, Hank was placed under arrest for driving while revoked from DUI, leaving accident fail to furnish information, and assault-threaten another menacing manner.
