Sidney resident claims Cash and the King prize

SIDNEY - The 31st Annual KSID Spring Expo on April 9 and 10 was the end of the road for the latest giveaway from 987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country.
The News Channel Nebraska radio stations announced the winner of Cash and the King on Sunday afternoon at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds in Sidney after nearly two months of accepting registrations to win premium seats - complete with access to a private bar and restaurant - to see George Strait at Pinnacle Bank Arena on April 23 and a cowboy hat full of money.
Listeners entered at more than 14 different locations since Feb. 16 across the southern Nebraska panhandle and northeast Colorado by guessing how much money was in the cowboy hat full of cash.
Radio station Office Manager, Carla Orr, announced at the Spring Expo the total amount of money in the hat was $567.42.
Cheyenne County Chamber President and CEO, McKailie Carnahan-Kuhns, had the closest guess and missed the total by just three cents. Her guess of $567. 39 won her the grand prize, brought to you by Highby Outdoors, Sam & Louie's and Boss City Brewing.
Carnahan-Kuhns says she stared at the cowboy hat of money for a while to come up with her guess. Eventually, she registered by writing down completely random numbers.
"I thought people were lying," Carnahan-Kuhns said. "I was really confused. I got a message that said I had won. I thought they got hacked. Then I got a message that said I cheated. Which I didn't. I was super excited. I never win stuff, so this was exciting."
Carnahan-Kuhns says she'll use the money on gas and restaurants when her and her friend, Brooke Bahr, go to Lincoln for the concert. She says she'll also use the money to help pay bills.
