FORT MORGAN - A man-made fire is being blamed as the cause of a fire at an abandoned building in the 100 block of Deuel Street in Fort Morgan at 3:47 a.m. Friday.

Fort Morgan Police say officers arrived to the scene of the "Old Turkey Plant" to find it fully engulfed in flames. The building is privately owned and has been abandoned for several years.

According to the police, one male party met with the officers and told them he started the fire while "camping" on the outside of the property. Officials discovered other squatters were living on the perimeter of the property.

Authorities determined all people were accounted for and there were no injuries during the fire. The building is considered to be a total loss.

Fort Morgan Police are reminding area residents conditions are very dry and flames can grow very quickly under the conditions. A red flag warning remained in effect Friday for the Nebraska Panhandle, northeast Colorado and southeast Wyoming. The weather service strongly discourages outdoor burning, because of extreme critical fire weather conditions.
