Sidney boys, McCook girls claim B-6 track and field championships
OGALLALA – The Sidney Red Raider boys track team won five events and took second in seven others to run away with the team title in the B-6 Track and Field Meet in Ogallala on Tuesday. The Raiders 124 team points outdistanced Lexington, who finished the day with 92 points.
Sidney dominated in several events on the day. Sophomores Luke Holly and Isak Doty went one and two in the 100 Meters, while seniors Mitchell Deer and Daniel Bashtovoi did the same in the 800 Meters. Sawyer Dickman, Jacob Dowse, and Cameron Leeling swept the High Jump with Dickman recording a personal best of 6’7” and Leeling also recording a person best with a jump of 6’5”.
The Class B leading 4x800 Meter Relay team of Mitchell Deer, Cameron Brauer, Treyson Johnstone, and Daniel Bashtovoi continued to run away from their competion, winning the event by almost 14 seconds. Sidney qualified all three of its relay teams for the state meet in Omaha.
McCook was equally dominate on the girls side of the meet. The Bison took home 17 medals, including three gold and six silver, while setting six personal records on the day.
Sidney’s Karsyn Leeling won the High Jump by clearing 5’5” and the Long Jump with a leap of 17’10¼”. Chloe Ahrens also qualified for the state meet by running a person best of :15.18 in the 100 Meter Hurdles to finish second.
