Sidney City Council sells land to Table of Grace Food Pantry for new building

SIDNEY —The Table of Grace Food Pantry will be constructing a new facility after Tuesday’s vote at the Sidney City Council meeting.
Jim Hansen from Sandhills Global has offered $20,440 for about 3.2 acres near the recycling facility to construct a new Table of Grace facility in Sidney. Sandhills Global also purchased two mobile food pantry trucks to be built locally by Adam’s Industries.
Table of Grace offers food to residents in Cheyenne, Kimball, and Garden Counties. The food pantry currently has around 800 households registered for food. A large portion of the food comes from local stores.
In other council business, the Chief Building Official for Marshall Hall requested the Hillside Golf Course Clubhouse roof be replaced. Hall said the roof was replaced 11 years ago, but due to hail and wind damage, it has leaks and many missing shingles. Hall said the roof is badly in need of replacement.
The council made a motion to approve paying the deductible of around $10,000 to repair the roof.
The council also approved a $70,000 dollar budget for new light poles along Illinois Street.
Electric Superintendent Mike Palmer said the light poles being replaced go from 9th Street to 12th Street. $70,000 for light poles will replace all 15 poles and include an extra pole in case a pole is damaged.
