Severe storms drop quarter-size hail in Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT - Hail stones the size of quarters covered roads, lawns and sidewalks during a severe thunderstorm in Bridgeport Tuesday evening.
Brooke and Brandt Banzhaf's back patio and front lawn were completely covered in hail in Bridgeport. Their daughters, Teagan and Quinn, helped their parents take a photo of a hail stone next to a quarter. The two nearly matched in size in the palm of Brandt's hand.
The National Weather Service office in Cheyenne issued a severe thunderstorm warning for central Morrill County until 6:45 p.m. The main threats with the storm were half dollar size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.
Several radar indications had hail stones the size of ping pong balls as the storm worked southeast from northern Scotts Bluff County to southern Garden County. The storm weakened below severe limits at approximately 7:20 p.m., before reaching severe limits in Deuel County at 7:35 p.m.
Jennifer Kepler, who was on her way home from Scottsbluff, was forced to stop on the shoulder of Highway 385 near the intersection of Highway 92 because of large hail.
