SCOTTSBLUFF -- After placing third last year, Norris took home the team state title on Wednesday at the Class B Boys State Golf Tournament.

The team scored the lowest total with 598 points. The Titans notched a 304 on Tuesday and made it down to 294 on Wednesday, tying their lowest score this season.

The team is made up of two seniors, Brock Rowley and Logan Thurber, juniors Alexander Combs and Travis Tilford, and sophomore Carson Thurber.

Logan Thurber scored the lowest of the team on Tuesday and placed third individually. Carson Thurber placed fourth and Rowley placed sixth individually.

Norris Head Coach James Myers said it has been a pleasure watching the team progress.

“I told them we had potential for greatness. Watching them grow from freshman year when they shot in the 80s and 90s to sophomore year, we didn’t have a season, then last year we got third at state, and this year to finally win with some of them medaling has been awesome," Myers said. "I’ve watched their entire growth and seeing them not only grow on the course but become such great men, and leaders for our team and that’s the best part.”

Myers said he expected to do well, and the Titans played even better than he thought.

“That is a really low score. I wasn’t quite expecting that. I was expecting the boys to play well and with a three-shot lead there’s a lot of pressure coming in and you don’t want to blow up," Myers said. "So, I didn’t want the boys to play conservatively. We had so much talent we are so skilled with the driver, so to go out there and just play our game that we have been the whole season will take care of business all on it's own.”

Myers said his seniors are great leaders for the team and the boys had great energy straight away on Tuesday and kept that rolling into Wednesday.

“We had a three-shot lead and honestly all season long our average has been 310, so yesterday we came out with a 304, which was a really good score we were really proud of," Myers said. "We really wanted to put the pressure on that front nine. I said treat this like a duel let’s go out and dominate this front nine. We can check the standings, see where we’re at, and then kind of play from it from there. We decided to just keep the pressure going the whole way because we were playing so well.”

Myers said the team played their best on Wednesday and tied their lowest score all season.

“I’m so proud of these guys. They have worked their butts off from the end of last year," Myers said. "I challenged them. I told them next year it’s all on you. We have the most talent. We’re the best team. Get the work done, set a goal, put in the work, and now it’s time to celebrate.”
