STERLING, Colo. -- Heritage on the Plains will be a four-day celebration at various locations around Sterling.

Heritage on the Plains in an event sponsored by The Overland Trail Museum. This is event begins Friday, July 1st through Monday, July 4th.

On Friday, there will be a Barbecue grilling contest, an outdoor concert from Rusty 44, and a beer garden at Logan County Courthouse Square.

Saturday is the Heritage on the Plains Beer and Wine Fest in downtown Sterling. This day will also feature live entertainment and a barbecue cooking contest.

On Sunday a church service begins at 10 a.m. in Pioneer Park hosted by Sterling Foursquare. At 11 a.m. The opening ceremony begins with the Gettysburg Address which will be recited by an Abraham Lincoln impersonator.

At 12 p.m. the Colorado Vintage Baseball Association is playing an authentic 1860s baseball game against the Sterling High Plains Hitters.

Overland Trail Museum Curator Kay Rich said this baseball game will be a highlight of the weekend.

"It's a lot of fun," Rich said. "Very interactive, they get the crown involved,"

Through the rest of Sunday, the Atomic Drifters are playing 50s hits, train rides around Pioneer Park will be available, and a blacksmith will be bending iron.

On Monday, July 4th, fireworks at Pioneer Park begin at dusk.

Rich said Heritage on the Plains is an old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration.

"This event offers something for everybody," Rich said.
