Results: First Go-Round of National High School Finals Rodeo

GILLETTE, Wyo. (KNEP) - Two local athletes currently sit in the top five after one go round at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette.

Gering’s Taydon Gorsuch thanks to a 4.2 run on Monday in Steer Wrestling currently in second overall in the first go round for the event. He will return to action Friday for his second go round.

Yoder native Haiden Thompson having a strong start in Gillette as well. The defending national champion in Goat Tying looking solid again as she had a 7.06 run Tuesday in her first go round. That total places her currently first overall in the go round. She will return to action Thursday for go round number two.

Thompson also taking part in Breakaway, Reined Cow Horse, and Team Roping. She would finish with 8th place runs in both Reined Cow Horse and Breakaway to currently sit in the top 25 for the first go rounds.

Harrison’s Leif Meidell thanks to a third place Monday performance currently is 17th in the first go round for Saddle Bronc.

Scottsbluff’s Tate Talkington behind a sixth place Tuesday performance currently sits 28th in the first go round for Reined Cow Horse. He will return for his second go round Wednesday morning.

First go round action wraps up on Wednesday morning. With go round number two running through Saturday in Gillette.
