MORRILL COUNTY - Formal charges have finally been filed against a dump truck driver accused of causing a collision a month ago in a construction zone on Highway 385 south of Alliance that killed two people.

Aldo Hernandez-Meza, 31, of Mexico, faces two counts of misdemeanor Motor Vehicle Homicide and one count of No Operators License in the June 16 crash that killed a New Mexico couple.

Hernandez-Meza is scheduled for arraignment in Morrill County on August 3. He’s currently free after posting 10% of $20,000 bond.

The Nebraska State Patrol says Hernandez-Meza was southbound with a load of wet cement when he failed to yield the right-of-way when trying to enter the construction zone from the northbound lane.

His truck hit a pickup driven by Charles Dueker, 79, of Albuquerque. Dueker and his 78-year old wife Linda, who was in the backseat, died at the scene. Their 56-year old son Bruce Dueker was treated at the Bridgeport hospital and released.

Hernandez-Meza suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the Bridgeport hospital. When he was released, he was arrested and lodged in the Morrill County Jail.
