The Sidney and Bridgeport American Legion senior baseball teams saw their seasons come to an end over the weekend. Sidney went 0-2 in the Class B Area 7 Tournament at Ogallala while Bridgeport went 1-2 at the Class C Area 7 Tournament at Gordon.

Gering Platte Valley Companies’ Carter Reisig and Jackson Howard combined for a no-hit shutout of the Sidney Seniors on Friday in the first game of the Class B American Legion Area 7 Senior Tournament in Ogallala. Reisig threw 5.1 innings for the win as Gering tallied four runs on four hits to advance while sending Sidney to an elimination game on Saturday afternoon.

In the elimination game, Micah Schneider and Blaine Russell combined to hold the Chadron FNBO Nationals to just four hits on Saturday but couldn’t overcome five errors as the Sidney Seniors saw their season come to and end with a 12-6 loss. Kobe Bissonette went the distance on the mound for Chadron to get the win. Bissonette gave up 6 runs on 7 hits while striking out 10 Sidney batters.

In the Class C American Legion Area 7 Senior Tournament in Gordon, the Bridgeport Bombers dropped their opening game to the Gordon Security First Regulators on Friday. The Bombers committed eight errors in the game, while the Regulators plated runs in every inning but the second, in a 13-5 loss to send Bridgeport to an elimination game on Saturday.

On Saturday, Scout Gamble’s four-for-four performance at the plate kept Bridgeport’s season alive with a 7-6 win over Hershland in an elimination game. After giving up four runs in the top of the fourth inning to fall behind 5-4, the Bombers rallied for three runs in the bottom half to take the lead for good. Ethan Eckhardt went the distance on the mound to get the win for Bridgeport, allowing six runs on ten hits while striking out five.

Bridgeport’s season came to an end on Sunday when the Bombers drop an elimination game to top-seeded Imperial 15-7. Leading 6-5 heading to the bottom of the third inning, the Bombers surrendered five runs on just two hits while committing five errors in the inning to fall behind 10-6. Imperial added two more runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to advance to Monday’s elimination game against the Gordon Security First Regulators. Bridgeport ends their season with a 2-15 record.
