Anselmo-Merna hands Leyton first loss of season

DALTON - Anselmo-Merna Junior Quinten Myers rushed for 114 yards on 27 carries and finished with two total touchdowns in the Coyotes' 14-12 victory over Leyton in the Warrior homecoming game on Friday afternoon in Dalton.
Myers rushed for one score and threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Collin Cooksley. Anselmo-Merna ended the game with 204 yards of total offense.
Sophomore Josiah Griffith added 47 yards on the ground.
Senior Damyn Russ threw for 160 yards on 8-21 passing and two touchdowns. Justin Ernest caught both touchdowns on a pair of screen plays. He finished with 111 yards receiving. Levi Weyerts added 32 yards receiving.
Leyton (3-1) dropped their first game of the season and will travel to South Loup next Friday to play the Bobcats (1-3). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
Anselmo-Merna improves to 2-2 and will be at Sandhills/Thedford (3-1) next Friday at 3 p.m.
