Kimball scores three touchdowns against Perkins County Plainsmen
KIMBALL, Neb. — The Kimball High School football team, playing in their first season in two years, host Perkins County Friday night.
The Longhorns had a rough start defending the Plainsmen.
Perkins County Senior Casey Hanson started the Plainsmen off strong getting a touchdown and a two-point conversion.
The Plainsmen kept the momentum and speed up through the first. The Longhorns had a difficult time keeping up with the Plainsmen’s run game, ending the first quarter 28-0 Perkins County.
The Longhorns carried the ball for one first down after possession in the second quarter. Junior Derek Kauffman carried the ball for the first down.
The Plainsmen buried the Longhorns in defense, and used their speed to add three more touchdown to the game. Perkins County Senior Tony Lyon and Sophomore Dawson Tjaden both scoring for the Plainsmen making the halftime score 49-0.
Kimball held the Plainsmen to 49 during the third quarter.
Longhorn’s Senior Trey Schindler made a big catch toward the end of the third and ran the ball 52 yards for a first down.
Kauffman carried the ball for another Longhorn first down, putting the Longhorns in a good position going into the fourth quarter.
The halftime score stayed the same through the third ending the quarter 49-0 Plainsmen.
Junior Brandon Paxton make Kimball’s firs touchdown in the beginning of the fourth quarter.
Perkins County ran the ball down for a touchdown during their first possession of the fourth.
Kauffman had another big play for Kimball running the ball 32 yards for a touchdown.
Perkins County came right back and put points on the board for every possession they had.
Kimball Sophomore had the Plainsmen’s final play for the night by running 22 yards for Kimball’s third and final touchdown.
The Plainsmen were unsuccessful for all three two-point conversion attempts.
The final score for the night was 71-18 Perkins County.
Kimball ran a total of 201 yards for 35 rushes.
Hansen and Tjaden both had three touchdowns for Perkins County and Freshman Jet Peterson had two touchdowns. Peterson ran 92 rushing yards over seven carries.
Kimball moves on to play Morrill on Sept. 23.
