MITCHELL – The Sidney Lady Raiders swept their second volleyball triangular in as many weeks with straight set wins over Mitchell and Gering on Thursday afternoon and evening in Mitchell. Sidney opened the triangular with a 25-19, 25-14 win over host Mitchell and then disposed of Gering in the second match 25-16, 25-14. With the wins, Sidney improves to 12-2 on the season.

Sidney traded points with Mitchell to start the first set in the opening game. Tied at 7-7, Sidney’s offense awakened with 5 kills on an 11-2 run to take control of the set, winning 25-19. Sidney started the second set against Mitchell with a 13-2 run and were never challenged, winning 25-14.

The Lady Raiders never trailed and steadily pulled away from Gering in the first set of Sidney’s second match. Junior Karsyn Leeling had six kills to spark Sidney to a 25-16 win. Although Sidney had to overcame five service error in the second set, they were never threatened, winning 25-14.

Gering came back to defeat Mitchell 26-24, 25-17 in the nightcap to go 1-1 on the day.

Sidney now heads east to Aurora for the Aurora Invitational on Saturday. Sidney is the number 3 seed at 12-2 and will face sixth-seeded Crete (8-6) in the first round. 13-2 Kearney Catholic is the top seed followed by 9-3 Columbus Lakeview. Bennington at 10-4 is seeded fourth.
