GERING - The City of Gering reminds its citizens and businesses starting October 1st, 2022 a half cent sale tax increase is set to take place.

Local sales tax is currently 7% and will now increase to 7.5% for infrastructure projects under the rules of LB357.

The half cent sales tax increase was passed by voters back in May 2022 in the primary elections.

Businesses and citizens are encouraged to visit revenue.nebraska.gov and view the “Local Government” link for more information.

“The main part of it was with the street projects they are two very expensive projects to do and 10th street is four lanes, M street is three lanes and they are both long projects. They are in pretty rough shape and we do have residential areas but were hoping with LB357 that tax we can put that money towards those projects and we can use our regular street funds for some of the residential streets.” said Pat Heath Gering City Administrator.
