SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. -- The Scottsbluff Police Department lifted the 'secure' status that was placed on Scottsbluff Public Schools around noon.

SBPD said they were received a report of two suspicious males in the area west of Scottsbluff High School.

Police said they had two reports of one of the men may be armed with a handgun.

It was reported that officers searched the area for more than two hours while SBPS were placed into a 'secure' status.

Several surveillance cameras in the area were reviewed and several individuals were contacted, according to police.

Authorities reported, none of the subjects contacted were identified as the subjects of the reports made to the police, and none were found to be in possession of firearms.

SBPD said they communicated with the school district around 2 p.m. to pass along that no evidence of subjects in or around the schools with firearms were located in the searches.

The police department said they would like to encourage the public immediately report suspicious activities such as this by calling 911 to allow for more immediate response to the area.
