POTTER - U.S. Highway 30 was closed in both direction at the intersection of Chestnut Street in Potter at approximately 1:27 p.m. Monday due to a two-vehicle injury accident.

A westbound truck-trailer collided with the driver's side door on a southbound Honda passenger car, pushing the car into the southwest corner of the intersection. The truck appeared to engage the brakes at least 100 feet before the intersection. 

The driver of the car had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported in serious condition to a Scottsbluff hospital by Airlink medical helicopter.  

The highway was expected to reopen at around 3:15 p.m. At 3:28 p.m., officials were expecting the intersection would be closed for about an hour.

The Potter Volunteer Fire Department, Cheyenne County Sheriff's office, Regional West Medical Center Ambulance, Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Department of Highways and AirLink responded to the scene.
