Sterling, Colo. — Sterling Middle School parents received a letter the evening of Nov. 9 that the school will be closed today, Nov. 10, due to a middle school student who threatened to bring a weapon to school.

The letter reads that the potential high-level threat concerns a middle school student who made "some very serious and threatening statements to some other students in regard to bringing a weapon to school."

The letter says authorities have identified the student in question and the incident has been reported to the Sterling Police Department. The student has been suspended and will be recommended for expulsion, according to the letter.

School staff is conducting a formal threat assessment of the matter today.

"Let me say again that we take all matters regarding the safety and security of our students and staff very serious and we will always take the most safe and secure approach to maintain a safe and secure school," Sterling Middle School Principal Robert Hall said in the letter to parents.
