State Patrol investigating officer-involved shooting in Gering

Gering Police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of M Street earlier today, December 1, at about 11:25 a.m. regarding a man who was making statements of self-harm.
According to a press release issued by Gering Police Capt. Jason Rogers, preliminary information indicates when officers arrived they contacted the male in the home. The man has been identified as Dannie Emrick, 53.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, during the officers' investigation, Emrick pointed a firearm at one of the officers. The officer discharged his service weapon, striking the Emrick. The NSP says Gering police officers immediately rendered medical aid to Emrick. He was transported to Regional West Medical Center by Valley Ambulance and is considered in stable condition.
Personnel from the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office, National Park Service and Nebraska State Patrol assisted with the scene.
The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the incident. Capt. Rogers said Thursday it is standard procedure to enlist an outside department to review an incident involving an officer discharging a weapon. The investigation is ongoing, the NSP reported Dec. 2.
