Sidney hoops complete weekend sweep
BAYARD – The Sidney basketball teams completed a sweep of weekend games with wins over a pair of previously undefeated Bayard teams on Saturday. The Lady Raiders pulled away in the second half from a determined Tiger girls team for a 62-46 win to improve to 5-0 on the season, while the Red Raiders held Bayard to single digits in every quarter to hand the Tigers their first loss of the year 70-23.
For the second night in a row, the Lady Raiders faced a much taller team with prolific scorer. With four starters measuring 5’10” or taller, and a leading scorer in Lexi Fiscus averaging 21.3 points per game, Bayard was facing their first real challenge of the season. The Tigers, who had cruised through their first four games winning by an average of 47 points per game, never led in the game.
Seniors Reese Riddle and Rheagan Stanley combined for 11 points as Sidney sprang to a 19-11 lead after one period. Stanley added five more points in the second to pace Sidney with 10 points and a 35-29 lead at half. Bayard got to within one point after intermission, but the Lady Raiders cranked up the pressure and held the Tigers in check the rest of the way.
Reese Riddle finished the game with 20 points and Rheagan Stanley added 10 points to lead 10 players in the scoring column for Sidney.

Sidney held a 22-point 37-15 advantage at intermission, and initiated the 40-point running clock before the end of the third period to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Sidney defense held the Tigers to single digit scoring in each quarter while limiting Bayard’s leading scorer, Trenton Marquez (22.5 ppg), to just 9 points on the night. The Tigers made just eight field goals and sank five of their nine free throw attempts.
