SIDNEY - A vast and volatile storm system that hurled blizzard conditions across the Nebraska Panhandle and northeast Colorado led to a fourth consecutive day of canceled classes for area schools.

Banner County, Bayard, Creek Valley, Garden County, Haxtun, Kimball, Leyton, Merino, Peetz, Potter-Dix, Sedgwick County, Sidney, and Valley RE-1 schools in Sterling and Caliche announced Thursday they will be having a snow day for the fourth time this week.

Scottsbluff and Gering will resume classes on Friday, according to school officials.

Chadron State College canceled classes for Friday, but will still hold their commencement celebration at 2 p.m.

Interstate 80 in the southern Nebraska panhandle reopen at noon Thursday. However, blowing snow limited visibility and created slick spots, leading to several accidents from Big Springs to Chappell.

The majority of roads in the panhandle and northeast Colorado remained closed or are impassible. They include:

I-76 from Sterling to the Nebraska border

Highway 30 from Big Springs to the Wyoming Border

Highway 385 from Sidney to Bridgeport

Highway 385 from the Nebraska border to Holyoke

Highway 71 from Kimball to Scottsbluff
