Boyle gets program record as Colorado downs S. Utah 86-78
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — KJ Simpson scored 21 points shooting 11 for 13 from the foul line and Colorado beat Southern Utah 86-78 to make Buffs head coach Tad Boyle the winningest coach in men’s program history.
Colorado took control for good with a 13-0 run with Tristan da Silva scoring seven — including a 3-pointer — Nique Clifford added four and a Javon Ruffin bucket inside with 6:07 to play gave CU a 73-59 edge.
Southern Utah’s Harrison Butler scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Ellis, Peterson help Southern Cal beat Colorado State 73-64
PHOENIX (AP) — Boogie Ellis hit four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points, Drew Peterson scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half and Southern California beat Colorado State 73-64 at the Jerry Colangelo Classic.
Tre White added 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals for USC and Reese Dixon-Waters also scored 10 points for USC. Isaiah Rivera made two free throws to give the Rams a one-point lead before Ellis hit a 3-pointer to give USC the lead for good with 2:07 left in the first and spark a 22-5 run that spanned halftime and made it 46-30 with 14:40 to go in the game.
USC (10-3) has won six games in a row.
Patrick Cartier led the Rams with 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting.
Oregon St. staves off Denver's upset bid in 57-52 win
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Jordan Pope made two foul shots with 28 seconds left, Denver turned it over on its next-to-last possession and Oregon State beat the Pioneers 57-52.
Tommy Bruner missed a 3-pointer with a second left for Denver in its chance to tie. Justin Rochelin made all four of his foul shots in the last seconds for the Beavers to complete the win. Glenn Taylor Jr. scored 12 points for Oregon State.
Bruner, Lukas Kisunas and Touko Tainamo each scored 10 for Denver.
Johnson scores 28, Saint Mary's downs Wyoming 66-54
PHOENIX (AP) — Logan Johnson scored 28 points as Saint Mary’s beat Wyoming 66-54 at the Jerry Colangelo Classic.
Johnson added five steals for the Gaels. Mitchell Saxen added 19 points and nine rebounds.
Aidan Mahaney finished with 11 points. Noah Reynolds led the Cowboys with 21 points.
