Lady Raiders 12-1 After Win Over North Platte
NORTH PLATTE – Maci Freeze hit a three-point shot to give North Platte the lead, 11-10 with 1:25 to go in the first quarter. Although the Bulldogs tied the game at 16-16 midway through the second period, it was North Platte’s last lead of the game. Sidney built a 15-point lead early in the fourth quarter to improve to 12-1 on the season with a 55-40 win Saturday afternoon in North Platte.
The Bulldogs’ trapping zone defense posed challenges for Sidney the entire afternoon. The Lady Raiders, who averages less than 15 turnovers a game, turned the ball over 25 times. However, Sidney’s defense was up to the task, holding North Platte to just 16 points off those turnovers.
Leading 25-19 at the half, Sidney opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run to take a double-digit 32-21 lead. Junior Katie Ramsey scored half of her game-high 12 points in the period to propel the Lady Raiders to a 41-28 lead after three quarters of play. Sidney made six of their eight free throws in the fourth period, and six players scored as the Lady Raiders rolled to a 55-40 win.
Katie Ramsey made five of her seven shots to lead Sidney with 12 points. Payton Schrotberger added 10 points on 5 of 9 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds to record a double-double.
The Lady Raiders hit the hardwood again on Friday when they travel to Gothenburg for a showdown with the 11-1 Swedes.

Johnston’s Nine 3s Sink Red Raiders
NORTH PLATTE – Senior River Johnston knocked down a school record nine three pointers, and scored a game-high 33 points, as North Platte rolled past the Sidney Red Raiders 84-59 Saturday afternoon at the Dog House in North Platte. Johnston shot over 70 percent from the floor including 9 of 14 (64.3%) from outside the arc to lift the Bulldogs’ record to 7-6.
Facing one of the tallest teams the Red Raiders have seen this season, Sidney battled to a virtual draw on the boards. But Sidney struggled defensively in the paint as Lance Gifford (6’4”) and Daniel Shea (6’6”) each shot 6 of 8 from 2-point range to combine for 24 points in the paint.
Sidney hit their first two three-pointers and took an 8-5 lead three minutes into the game. But a Jesse Mauch three at the 4:23 mark of the first period gave North Platte a 10-8 advantage, one they did not relinquish the rest of the afternoon. Leading 21-13 after the first quarter the only starter that had not scored was Johnston, but that was about to change. The 6’2” senior point guard hit his first four shots of the second quarter, all threes, to push the Bulldogs to a 35-20 lead just 1:36 into the period.
Trailing 40-28 at the half Sidney cut the North Platte lead to 40-31 on an Isak Doty three pointer one minute into the third period, but that was as close as the Red Raiders got the rest of the game. Jaeden Dillehay paced Sidney on the afternoon with 19 points while Jacob Dowse added 9. Sidney falls to 9-4 on the season and will travel to 7-5 Gothenburg on Friday.
