KIMBALL - Cities across the Nebraska Panhandle region made preparations for the next winter storm forecast to hit mid-week.

The City of Kimball Landfill announced they would be doing Wednesday's trash routes on Tuesday, instead of Wednesday, because of the impending weather.

A winter storm warning remains in effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 5 p.m. Wednesday for Kimball County, as well as Cheyenne, Banner, Scotts Bluff, Morrill, Garden, Deuel, Logan, Sedgwick, and east Laramie Counties. All 93 of Nebraska's counties are now in some form of winter alert.

WeatherEye Meteorologist Mike Karow says winds will be a little elevated, but won't get to blizzard criteria while the Kimball area receives between 6 to 12 inches of snow during the weather event.

"The start time on that snow is anytime after 5 p.m. this evening (Tuesday)," Karow said. "Then snowfall rates pickup for tonight to a tune of around four to eight inches of accumulation through the night tonight. Those overnight lows dropping back into the lower 20s. Still snowing through the majority of your Wednesday as well. An additional two to four inches of snow accumulation expected for tomorrow."

The National Weather Service office warns travel could be very difficult, especially the Wednesday morning commute. The NWS says patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Karow says snow tapers off Wednesday evening and the weather will become "tranquil" through the weekend.
