SIDNEY -- The family of Rhonda Halligan needs the community's help.

On Jan. 26, 2023, Halligan, director of Here Wee Grow Child Development Center in Sidney, was driving on Interstate 80 to Cheyenne, Wyo., when she was in a serious vehicle accident.

She suffered serious injuries to the left side of her body and was transported to Cheyenne Medical Center by ambulance.

There she was stabilized and transported by ambulance to UCH Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colo. to undergo orthopedic surgery.

She underwent an extensive surgery with two surgeons to rebuild her left elbow, left knee and insert rods and pins in her tibia and fibula. She also broke four ribs, according to her family.

After surgery, she was released to the trauma surgical unit.

Her oldest daughter, Shala Hartmann, started a gofundme account for her mom.

"My mom does have some insurance, but will not be able to cover the costs of care," she said in the gofundme page.

Halligan is expected to be in a wheelchair for six to eight weeks, in addition to the hospital stay, rehab and therapy. As of January 31, Halligan was still in the trauma unit. Her family reports she has been able to sit in a wheel chair for a few hours at a time.

"We’re very thankful she is alive. She has a very long, hard recovery ahead of her," Hartmann said.
