NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – A southwestern Nebraska tourism organization has announced over $60,000 worth of grants intended to support community events.

Visit North Platte, which operates under an agreement with the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners to facility the Nebraska Visitors Development Act, said it received $102,360 worth of applications and awarded $66,050 at its monthly meeting in January.

Grant funds, marketing and operating expenses for Visit North Platte are funded solely through the lodging taxes that are collected and remitted for overnight stays by lodging properties in Lincoln County.

Among the events receiving funds:

  • $4,850 in promotional funding for North Platte Rail Days
  • $4,200 in funding for the Buffalo Bill Brawl Boxing Tournament
  • $800 in promotional funds for the Buffalo Bill Rough Rider Gravel Grinder
  • $600 in promotional funds for the upcoming disc golf tournament
  • $6,400 in sports incentive funding for the Flatrock Youth Baseball Tournament
  • $20,000 in promotional funding for NEBRASKAland Days
  • $6,200 in funding for the Miss Nebraska Scholarship Organization
  • $3,500 in funding for the Ultimate Bull Riding Tour Bucking Battle Bash
  • $1,950 in funding to the Lincoln County Raceways Memorial Day Challenge race
  • $2,050 in funding to the NEBRASKAland Days Cowboy Pickleball Tournament
  • $14,000 in funding to the National Avocado Launching Championship
  • $1,000 in sports incentive funding to the Rail Yard Ringer Open Horseshoe Tournament
  • $500 in promotional funds to the Pokercycle, a North Platte Trails Network Fundraiser

Grant funds, marketing, and operating expenses for Visit North Platte are funded solely through the lodging taxes that are collected and remitted for overnight stays by lodging properties in Lincoln County.

The next round of funding is now open, with an April 1 deadline for events or projects occurring in July, August, and September 2023. These applications will be considered at the regular monthly Board of Directors meeting scheduled for April 26, 2023.
