Lady Raiders 19-1 After Dominate Weekend

SIDNEY – The Sidney Lady Raiders swept a pair of games against Western Conference foes Gering and Scottsbluff at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility over the weekend, and they did it in dominate fashion. Sidney held Gering to just 8 first-half points and cruised to a 51-30 win over the Bulldogs on Friday. Then outscored seventh ranked Scottsbluff in every period on Saturday for a convincing 70-39 win.
Sidney trailed Gering 5-4 at the 5:32 mark of the first quarter, but Kayla Westby’s first three pointer of the night 11 seconds later erased the Bulldogs’ only lead in the game and the Lady Raiders never looked back. Sidney turned 10 Gering turnovers into 13 points to take a 16-5 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Raider pressure only allowed three second quarter points as Sidney forged a 34-8 lead at halftime.
Head coach Tyler Shaw substituted at will throughout the second half as the Sidney lead hovered around 20 points the remainder of the game. 10 of Sidney’s 13 players that played in the game scored, but no one reached double figures. Kayla Westby finished with a team-high eight points while Chloe Ahrens, Karsyn Leeling, Katie Ramsey, and Reese Riddle all had six points. It was Sidney’s 18th win against one loss as Gering fell to 9-9.

Sidney returned to the Cabela’s Athletic Facility Saturday afternoon for a Class B top-10 matchup with Scottsbluff. The 16-4 Bearcats entered the game on a 12-game winning streak and were ranked number seven in Class B while the 18-1 Lady Raiders had won 11 in a row and were rated number three in the Class B.
Scottsbluff’s Payton Burda and Anna Kelley who have 47 three-pointers apiece on the season, each made a shot from outside the arc to fuel the Bearcats to an 8-2 lead. Those were the only three-pointers Scottsbluff would make as Sidney finished the first quarter on a 17-4 run to take a 19-12 lead at the first break. Sidney continued their onslaught at both ends of the court in the second period. Buoyed by Reese Riddle’s 11 points, the Lady Raiders put up 20 points in the quarter while holding the Bearcats to only seven to take a 39-19 lead into intermission.
Sidney finished the game with 11 players in the scoring column led by Reese Riddle’s 22 points. Kayla Westby added 13 as the Lady Raiders improved to 19-1. Paige Horne (13.9 ppg.) knocked down 15 points before fouling out with 4:19 to go to lead the Bearcats. Payton Burda (12.1 ppg.) and Anna Kelley (9.9 ppg.) were each held to five points.
