Sidney, Scottsbluff to Battle for B-8 Subdistrict

SIDNEY – Kayla Westby hit her third three-pointer of the game just 2:40 into the first quarter as the Lady Raiders sprinted to an 11-0 lead and never looked back in a 70-34 semifinal win over Gering Monday night in the B-8 Subdistrict. Westby added a fourth triple later in the period to balloon Sidney’s advantage to 21-6 after one quarter.
The Lady Raiders continued the onslaught in the second period as eight Sidney players scored while holding the Gering to just two field goals and eight points. Makenzie Todd, who had all six first quarter points for the Bulldogs, was held scoreless in the second quarter as the Lady Raiders poured in 22 points to take a 43-14 lead into halftime.
With a commanding lead, Sidney was able to freely substitute and sustain momentum into the fourth quarter, The bench scored 14 of Sidney’s 18 points in the final period as the Lady Raiders improved to 23-1 on the season, the most wins ever under head coach Tyler Shaw.
Sidney was led by Kayla Westby with 14 points. Rheagan Stanley and Ryan Dillehay scored 10 points apiece while Karsyn Leeling and Reese Riddle each chipped in 9 points. Mackenzie Todd led the Bulldogs with 12 points.
Top-seeded Sidney (23-1) will now take on second seeded Scottsbluff (19-5) in the B-8 Subdistrict championship game at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The Bearcats turned a 26-20 halftime lead into a 65-34 win over Alliance in the second semifinal on Monday to advance to the subdistrict final. It will mark the fourth time in five years the two Western Conference rivals have met in the subdistrict championship.
