Fatality accident involves 19-year-old Gering woman Sunday
CHADRON - Authorities are investigating a fatality accident on Highway 385 in northwest Nebraska involving a 19-year-old Gering woman at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
The Nebraska State Patrol says Autumn Elsen was traveling north in a Pontiac Grand Prix between Hemingford and Chadron when she lost control while passing another vehicle. She over-corrected and struck a southbound GMC Sierra, driven by Ross Grant, 47, of Alliance, according to the preliminary investigation.
Elsen became trapped in the vehicle. When freed from the vehicle, she was transported by ambulance to the Chadron Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Grant was ejected from his vehicle. He was flown by medical helicopter to Regional West Hospital in Scottsbluff for treatment.
According to the state patrol, several bystanders attempted to assist both Elsen and Grant. Seat belts were not in use in either vehicle.
