Sterling Police arrest man for enticement charges
Sterling Police plan internet safety event, 6 p.m. March 28 at Sterling Middle School
STERLING, Colo. -- Sterling Police announced this afternoon the arrest of Michael Scott Bretz, 49, on charges related to enticement of a child.
On March 20, 2023 at approximately 4 p.m., the Sterling Police Department conducted an operation resulting in the arrest of an adult male for Internet Luring and Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child. The arrest marked the second time the male has been arrested by Sterling Police since Feb. 28, 2023 for similar crimes.
On March 11, 2023 Bretz began communicating through social media apps with Sterling Police undercover detectives, whom he thought was a juvenile female. After multiple sexually explicit communications were received from Bretz, detectives arranged for him to meet at a specified location on March 20 where he expected to meet a teenage female.
Bretz was arrested by the Sterling Police Department, and was charged with the following:
1. Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child (2 Counts) - C.R.S. 18-3-405 - F4
2. Enticement of a Child - (2Counts) - C.R.S. 18-3-306 - F4
3. Sexual Exploitation of a Child (1 Count)- C.R.S. 18-6-403 - F3
4. Internet Luring of a Child (2 Counts) C.R.S. 18-3-305 - F4
5. Failure to Register as a sex offender (1 Count) C.R.S. 18-3-412.5 - F6
On February 28, Sterling Police arrested Bretz after learning he had been trying to lure juvenile females for sex, through social media apps. Bretz, 49, who was paroled from prison on February 15, 2023, was charged with the following:
1. Failure to Register as a Sex Offender - C.R.S. 18-3-412.5(2)(a) - F6
2. Enticement of a Child - C.R.S. 18-3-305(2) - F4
3. Internet Luring of a Child/Intent Sexual Contact/Exploitation – C.R.S. 18-3- 306(3) – F4
