CHADRON - Extreme impacts are expected in a major spring snowstorm that'll move through southeast Wyoming and Western Nebraska Monday through Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service office in Cheyenne. Meteorologists warn to prepare for possible blizzard conditions.

Heavy snow and near-blizzard conditions are expected in a major spring snowstorm forecast to strike the northern Nebraska Panhandle Monday morning through Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service office in Cheyenne.

A winter storm warning is in effect from 6 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Wednesday for Dawes, Sioux, and Box Butte Counties in Nebraska, and Goshen County in Wyoming. The weather service says these areas could see 12 to 24 inches of snow with winds gusting as high as 55 mph. The higher snow totals are expected near the Pine Ridge.

A 36-hour snowfall projection map from News Channel Nebraska's weather partners at WeatherEye Weather Center pinpoints Harrison to receive 32 inches of snow. Crawford could get 25 inches, 18 inches in Rushville, 15 inches in Hemingford, and Alliance could end up with 9 inches.

Sheridan and Cherry Counties in Nebraska, along with South Dakota Counties along the Nebraska border, are in blizzard warnings.

The entire panhandle, northeast Colorado, and southeast Wyoming is forecast to get some amount of snow. 13 inches could fall in Torrington, near 8 inches in Scottsbluff, Bridgeport could receive 4.5", and Potter is forecast to get nearly 3 inches. Sidney, Oshkosh and Peetz can expect a couple inches of snow, while Sterling and Julesburg will be around an inch to an inch-and-a-half.

Banner, Scotts Bluff, Deuel, and Garden Counties were placed in a winter storm watch by the NWS.

The weather service says travel could be very difficult to impossible with blowing snow reducing visibility. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
