SIDNEY --  Sidney Regional Medical Center (SRMC) and Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) are hosting a new event called Scrub Camp.

Participants will have an opportunity to explore a variety of healthcare career options during this two-day learning experience. Attendees will hear from over twenty different healthcare professionals who will discuss what they do and how they got into their chosen career field and supply an opportunity to explore a variety of healthcare occupations through interactive activities.

The 2023 Scrub Camp material is for both high school aged students (2023-2024 school year high schoolers) and adults who are considering a career in healthcare. There is no charge for this event. Lunch will be provided both days as well as an opportunity to network with regional professionals.

Scrub Camp is June 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the WNCC Sidney Campus. Preregistration is needed for this camp. To register for the camp, visit www.SidneyRMC.com/Events

“We are excited to partner with WNCC, Nebraska Panhandle AHEC, the Nebraska Department of Labor and other regional resources to show the many options available in healthcare” said, Evie Blackburn, Scrub Camp Coordinator “This includes both clinical and non-clinical roles. There truly is something for everyone in healthcare.”

One of the most pressing issues facing the healthcare industry today is the critical need for healthcare providers. This is especially true for rural Nebraska. In the coming years, thousands of extra healthcare workers will be needed.

Although the concept of Scrub Camp is not new, this two-day event is meant to encourage participants to consider pursuing a career in healthcare. Scrub Camp is the collaborative effort of Sidney Regional Medical Center, Western Nebraska Community College, Nebraska Panhandle Area Health Education Center, and the Department of Labor.
